University of Derby Design & Build Data Centre Project

28th, June 2012

The data centre will be located in the Kirtley Building (adjacent to B Block) at the far end from its Team Derby sports facilities, with a plant area to be developed between Kirtley and the car park. Work began during the Easter break 2012 and is due to be completed by the end of September.

This new data centre will replace the current five server rooms spread around the Kedleston Road site. When completed it will have protected power and resilient cooling, and will complement investments already made to the current service based at the Markeaton Street site.

Workspace Technology confirmed their position as the UK’s leading data centre design, build and management specialist with this recent appointment.

Ken Barnes, Commercial Project Manager, commented: "Workspace Technology excelled in the quality, commitment and expertise demonstrated in their tender response. It was clear that Workspace Technology offered the best commercial and technical offer for the University. Progress on site has been exceptional reaffirming that our decision to appoint Workspace Technology was the right decision”.
