With new emerging Technologies and expanding AI capability, will 2021 be the year the Green Data Centre flourishes?
Data Centres have historically been labelled a large contributor to global warming. There they sit, using power generated by fossil fuels in their racks, burning even more energy in their cooling mechanisms and releasing dissipated hot air into the atmosphere.
According to a new white paper by DXC Technology, Data Centres are responsible for approximately 2% of all carbon emissions and according to computer world, that will increase to 3.2% by 2025.
However, a recent report in the Journal of Science states that while Data Centre workloads have increased six-fold from 2010 and 2020, the overall energy consumption has not increased by the same degree.
Does your business have a carbon promise? Microsoft promise to be carbon negative by 2030, Google pledge to be 24 x 7 carbon -free by 2030.
So, what points should you consider when looking to reduce carbon in your Data Centre?
