2020: Charity Update

15th, January 2020

Corporate Social Responsibility should be important to any business, it certainly is for Workspace Technology Limited. As a company we believe it’s not just the company that should be responsible, but that it is also every single employee’s duty to demonstrate and contribute to supporting local charities, reducing their impact on the environment and maintaining a fair and honest work environment.

Each year, the staff at Workspace Technology put forward nominations for their chosen charity to be represented for the forthcoming year. In 2019, Dawn Smiley, Operations Director put forward the Buddy Bag Foundation which was chosen following an anonymous vote.

The Buddy Bag Foundation was founded by Karen Williams to provide vital supplies to children who find themselves being removed from their homes at very short notice in distressing circumstances.

Each Buddy Bag contains items such as pyjamas, books, toiletries, and a toy, all contained within a rucksack that the child can call their own and take with them wherever they may end up. Just imagine going to school one day and never going home, leaving all your treasured possessions behind. A Buddy Bag is just one small way in which this tragic scenario can be improved.

The team at Workspace Technology set an ambitious target of raising £2500 which would fund 100 Buddy Bags, helping 100 children in need. The target significantly superseded any amount that had been raised before by the company.

During the year there were skydives, running races, cake sales, sweepstakes, raffles, an honesty tuckshop and finishing the year with the Buddy Up for Christmas campaign. Staff were encouraged to buddy up with a colleague to go halves on a buddy bag in exchange for chances to win in the raffle, guess the length of the speech competition, a tasty pork bap and not have to write Christmas Cards to their colleagues.

All the fundraising activities soon saw the cash flowing in, just falling short of the target, the Managing Director dug deep into his pockets at the Staff Conference and topped up the pot so that the £2500 we hoped for was raised.

Karen Williams, Founder of the Buddy Bag Foundation passed on her thanks "On behalf of the Buddy Bag Foundation, a massive Thank You to Workspace Technology for their help and support during 2019. Making a real difference to children in emergency care".

2020 will see Workspace Technology support Shelter, the homeless charity, which was nominated by Amit Singala, Business Development Manager. No doubt the honesty tuckshop will continue to feed the hungry staff and there will be plenty more fundraising activities planned, which may even involve the staff taking to the streets overnight to see the impact of being homeless first hand.
